So here's the idea I've been kicking around this morning to promote the site:
A low budget, impromptu gaming convention. Essentially, it would work like this: Davy (Boxofit) kicks in the necessary $50 it would take for us to rent the Red Roof Inn's conference room off Avalon and I-10 (a hopefully central enough location between Pensacola, Milton, Pace, and other outlying areas to draw in gamers).
Both Davy and myself lend our HD TVs to the cause, and I'll bring my computer, two afterglow controllers (Davy bringing a third, and possibly a fourth), a 10/100/1000 24-Port Ethernet Switch (just in case a LAN party is desired), and essentially every console known America (and in emulation form: Every console known to existence).
I begin flyer and web promotion around the tri-county area, posting ads in game shops, comic book shops, coffee shops, and all applicable craigslist and meetup pages; advertising our effort as a small attempt at a gaming convention with free, though incredibly limited*, admission. *I stress limited because, while unlikely, we'd be poorly suited to properly amuse a couple dozen other gamers, unless they're all bringing their own content (which I'd like to suggest during the RSVP process), so I shutter at the thought of over-succeeding and drawing in a few hundred.
So basically, the reason I'm posting this is to get feedback on the idea and answers to these questions:
• Would you attend a free gaming convention? • Would you attend a con where you were encouraged to bring your own games, consoles, and/or TVs? • In what ways would you improve the idea if money were no object? • In what ways would you improve the idea, while keeping costs to a minimum? • If successful enough to become an annual convention, do you feel it would serve as a good exposure source for Boxofit.com? • If successful enough to become a touring con (one which happens multiple times throughout the year, at various locations across the US), where would you expect it to be held? • Do you have any ideas for advertising Boxofit.com?

I think this is a super swell idea. Golly gee I want to take part in it. Once we get like a full 4 hour program worked out for entertainment I'd really like to start actually trying to get something like this together. I don't even care about becoming a con, it'd just be awesome to hang out with a bunch of people like that every once in a while.

I would attend a free gaming convention, provided that there would be something to control the outbursts from angry people who lose.
